Petra Charlotte Verkaik was born on November 4, 1966, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in a multicultural household with a Dutch father and an Indonesian mother, contributing to her mixed ethnicity. Raised as an only child, she spoke Dutch until third grade and developed an early interest in acting and modeling. She holds a degree in mechanical engineering from California State University, Northridge. Her entry into adult content began unexpectedly in 1989. While pursuing acting, she needed a headshot for her portfolio and modeled for a photographer in exchange for free photos. The photographer sent her images to Playboy, which contacted her for a shoot.
